Even the most flawless design can be compromised by poor execution on the construction site. In the medical sector, where a deviation of a few millimeters in a medical gas line or an error in ventilation calibration can be critical, field supervision is a guarantee of safety.
The Role of the Designer on Site
Field supervision ensures that construction work fully complies with the approved documentation. Key tasks include:
Network Installation Control: Checking the tightness of oxygen pipelines, the correct routing of shielded cables for diagnostic equipment, and the installation of HEPA filters.
Prompt Design Adjustments: If unforeseen circumstances arise during construction, the design engineer quickly adapts the solutions without compromising functionality.
Inspection of Hidden Works: Verifying units that will later be covered by finishes (insulation, grounding, ventilation ducts).
Commissioning and Final Testing
Installation is followed by the commissioning stage. This is when all systems (ventilation, electricity, gases) are integrated into a single functioning organism. We verify:
Achievement of the required positive pressure in operating rooms.
ATS response time during power failure simulations.
Air purity levels after the filtration system launch.
The outcome of this stage is the signing of certificates and the handover of as-built documentation to the client, which is essential for the future operation and maintenance of the facility.
